Alistair Overeem is a professional Mixed Martial Artist and kick boxer from The Netherlands who is currently signed on to perform as a Heavyweight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC, the premier Mixed Martial Arts promotion in the world. He is a former DREAM Heavyweight champion, Strike Force Heavyweight champion as well as the K1 World Grand Prix winner and made history to become the first and so far, the only fighter in the history of combat sports to simultaneously hold a Mixed Martial Arts and Kickboxing world title.

Sherdog currently ranks Overeem as the sixth best Heavyweight fighter in the world.

Born in England to a Jamaican father and a Dutch mother, Overeem and his family moved back to The Netherlands when he was six years old after his parents divorced. It was in Holland that Overeem spent his entire childhood and his first foray into sports came here as he was extremely involved with sports such as judo, basketball and other track and field events. At the age of 15 years, Alistair Overeem was taken to a local gym to learn the art of self defense and although he found it very aggressive initially, he started to enjoy it with time and fell in love with it.

Overeem debuted in Mixed Martial Arts at the age of 19 years and he went through various promotions, posting a record of 10-3 in stints with RINGS, It’s Showtime and M1 before making his debut with PRIDE Fighting Championship. He then went to Strike Force where he went on to become the Heavyweight champion before he signed a professional contract with the UFC.

Alistair Overeem has had two fights in the UFC so far, winning one fight against Brock Lesnar before losing to Antonio Silva a few months back.

Just like football boxing has been a part of our history for hundreds of years now, and just like football boxing has only gotten more popular over the years. With the ability of being able to watch matches in high definition no matter where they are in the world, boxing pulls in millions of viewers.

Another thing that boxing pulls in is bets, there has always been a strong link between boxing and betting, it is easy to see why when putting your money behind one of the boxer’s only make watching the match mean more and thus more exciting.

Putting a bet on a match is easier now than ever before, where as you used to have to go down to your local betting shop in order to look up the odds and then place the bet. All of this can now be done on your sofa from your phone through the use of the internet. Betting companies saw just how popular online casinos such as http://www.luckynuggetcasino.com/au/ had become and decided that it would be a good idea to give people the opportunities to bet online. This was a great choice as many more people than ever now place bets for all sorts of things.

The most common thing that people place their money on is just who will win the match overall, this is easy enough to understand as it is as simple as you win or lose. However there are other aspects that you can place your money on too, for example how many round the match will go on for or who will win each round. Because these are much harder to predict the amount you would win if you were correct goes up dramatically.

Whatever you decide to do always make sure you do your research beforehand so that each bet you make is a well informed one.

With his surgically repaired knee completely healed as well as two title defenses under his belt, Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre is keeping a very busy schedule for himself as he looks to pass the time while waiting for the UFC to decide on his next title defense, in all probability against the number one contender Johnny Hendricks, who earned the right to the title after winning against Carlos Condit at UFC 158.

And he is also keeping extremely busy outside the Octagon of the UFC as well as the longtime holder of the UFC Welterweight Championship has accepted the role of Batroc The Leaper in the soon to be filmed sequel of Captain America, titled Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The film is based on the character created by Marvel Comics of the same name and is expected to hit the theaters in 2014. Shooting is scheduled to begin at the end of April but the schedule is not expected to hamper Rush’s plans to prepare for his next bout too much.

The film is a sequel to the box office hit Captain America: The First Avenger which raked in a staggering $ 369 million. Along with St. Pierre, the film will also star Chris Evans in the title role alongside Scarlett Johansson as well as Samuel L. Jackson. The French Canadian Mixed Martial Artist is no stranger to appearing in front of the camera and has appeared in a couple of straight to video films.

The news comes as good news for the UFC as a whole which has seen several of its stars act in various Hollywood productions in recent times. The character first appeared in the series in 1966 and is a master of the French form of kickboxing ‘savate’.

Cain Velasquez is all set to set the ring on fire as he gets down with Junior Dos Santos this December 29 2012 at the UFC 155. This is almost like a rematch because the previous match that had been scheduled in November 12, 2011 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, was not worth a thrill because both of them were not physically fit owing to injuries. Nevertheless, Cain lost to the ‘Cigano’ (as dos Santos is also known) in just 64 seconds and Dos Santos walked away with the gold of the UFC heavyweight division.

It is now almost a year since that incident and Cain Velasquez has not forgotten it at all. By recalling that incident he has made himself ready enough to avenge his only loss in his record. Taking time into the training and getting back at the spot at the right time and a golden chance was all that he had been waiting for. According to him, this is almost like a real fight game because here the people get hurt almost everywhere, even the heart too, if they lose the game after so much of toil. What adds to the grief and anger is the loose comments made by certain viewers who think training for MMA is just a boit of workout at the gym where one can skip a lot of perfection.

Cain Velasquez agrees that they have to be perfect even at the gym because even a small mistake can leave one injured, forcing him to take a break from the fights which is terrible. Now there is no such question of injuries because he is in full form after defeating Antonio Silva, (Big Foot) in just the first round of the UFC. How much is now Cain is able to get from his bargain is to be watched over.
