A fight at the UFC 209 which would have been the biggest fight of his career for an interim lightweight title was missed out on by Tony Ferguson after the undefeated KhabibNurmagomedov pulled out of the game.

This however has not been enough to break the fighting spirit of the Californian as he looks forward to his next match. Following the disappointment, he was offered a replacement fight to go into the cage against Michael Johnson, but the smaller pay package the UFC offered him and the fact that the title had been scrapped, made him turn down the fight.

Nurmagomedovfondly known as ‘The Eagle’ was forced to pull out of the title bout with Ferguson after he was hospitalized due to weight cutting issues.

The boss at UFC, Dana White said that the news of The Eagle’s withdrawal from the match had left Ferguson devastated.

Speaking at the post fight press conference held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas after the UFC 209, White described what took place after the match did not hold.

“The thing is that he was devastated. He came over to our offices, and he was as bad as anybody I’ve ever seen when a fight pulls out.”

Ferguson still attended the UFC 209 and went home with his show money worth$250,000. The 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu fighter didn’t hesitate to inform current lightweight champion McGregor, warning him that he was next on his list.

The biggest star of the sport, McGregor since the history of UFC, became the first fighter to hold two belts at the same time. He took down Jose Aldo in thirteen seconds, which saw him win cart home the featherweight title at UFC 194. Next was at the UFC 205 where he TKO’d Eddie Alvarez thus adding lightweight strap to his resume.
